Mandatory courses are those which staff in Quarriers must undertake as  part of their role. Staff and volunteers at Quarriers will select from these courses as fits their role, sector or department. Core courses are courses which everyone in the organisation must undertake.

This is a 3-4 hour assessed course covering the principles and practice of the administration of medication. This course is mandatory for all direct care staff.

This is a 3 - 3.5 hour assessed course which will enable learners to understand how to set up a safe workstation and avoid RSI. This course is core learning for all employees.

Equality and Diversity
Self enrolment

This is a 2 - 2.5 hour assessed course covering the principles, legislation and organisational policies in Equality and Diversity. This course is core for all employees.

Fire Safety

This is a 2 - 2.5 hour assessed course covering the causes of fire, fire protection and taking action. This course is core for all employees.

Food Safety
Self enrolment

This is a 2 - 2.5 hour assessed course covering the principles and practice of food hygiene. This course is mandatory for all employees working in job roles where there is food preparation.

This is a 2 - 2.5 hour assessed course which will enable learners to understand the key provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation and apply it within their job role. This course is core learning for all employees.

Infection Control
Self enrolment

This is a 2 - 2.5 hour assessed course covering the principles and practice of infection control. This course is mandatory for all social care workers.

This is a 2.5 - 3 hour assessed course based on the CALM philosophy and will introduce you to key factors which influence and impact on the occurrence of challenging behaviour.  This course is mandatory for all care staff.

This is a 4.5 - 5 hour assessed course covering an introduction to health and safety and risk assessment, staying safe with hazardous substances and electricity, safe manual handling, slips, trips and falls and hand hygiene . This course is core for all employees.

This course is core learning - all new employees should undertake this course in conjunction with completing their Induction Portfolio and the face to face Core Values learning session.

This is a 1.5 - 2 hour assessed course covering the basics of protection training.  This course is core learning for all employees in Scotland.


This is a 3 - 3.5 hour assessed course and covers Safer Handling of People Theory. Completing this course is a prerequisite for anyone who is booked into the Safer Handling of People practical workshop. This course is mandatory for staff who support people to move.
