Dementia Awareness

This is a 2.5 - 3 hour assessed course designed to familiarise health and social care staff with recognising, understanding, assessing and managing dementia, and with providing high-quality dementia care.

This is a 1 hour assessed introductory level course for all staff who are supporting people with Dementia.

Introduction to Autism
Self enrolment

This is a 2 - 3 hour assessed course covering the different forms of autism and the impact they can have on individuals. This course is optional for all employees.

This is a 8 hour course using open learning materials and looks at the history of institutions in the twentieth century, starting with a case study of Lennox Castle Hospital. This unit links to the HNC units for Social Care Theory for Practice and Social Policy.

This course is optional and no certificate will be issued as it is not assessed.

This is a 4 hour course using open learning materials and explores how knowledge and beliefs about death and encounters with death affect people’s lives. It also examines the concept of a “good death” from an individual perspective in order to enhance the quality of dying.

Managing Volunteers

This is a 1.5 hour assessed course covering motivating and managing volunteers. This course is optional for all employees.

Naloxone
Self enrolment

This course should be completed by staff supporting people who are prescribed Naloxone for an Opioid overdose.

This is a 1 - 1.5 hour assessed course and is for anyone who wants to learn more about mental health, whether it is how to look after your own mental health, or advice on supporting a colleague.  This online course aims to increase awareness of mental health at work.

QStar
Self enrolment

This is a 2 - 2.5 hour assessed course covering the principles of personalisation and SDS, the practice of using Qstar and Quarriers approach to working with outcomes.

This is a 10 hour course using open learning materials and looks at old age from the Workhouse to the basic state pension and why people are expected to stop work at a certain age and the impact it has on their lives. This unit links to the HNC unit for Social Policy.
